Electrician Certification Tracking — NICEIC, 18th Edition, Part P

How electricians track their certifications, CPD requirements and competency records with custom software instead of spreadsheets.

The Certification Burden for Electricians

Electricians carry more certification requirements than almost any other trade. NICEIC or NAPIT registration, 18th Edition qualification (BS 7671), Part P competent person scheme, ECS card renewals, manufacturer training certificates, and ongoing CPD requirements. Tracking all of these — especially if you employ multiple electricians — is a compliance headache.

What Happens When You Lose Track

An expired ECS card means your electrician cannot work on certain sites. A lapsed NICEIC registration means you cannot self-certify Part P work. Missed CPD means your scheme membership is at risk. These are not minor administrative issues — they directly impact your ability to trade and can result in fines or loss of certification.

How a Tracking System Helps

A custom certification tracking system stores every qualification, its issue date, expiry date and renewal requirements. Automatic alerts start 90 days before any expiry, giving you plenty of time to book training or submit renewal applications. A dashboard shows the compliance status of every team member at a glance.

For businesses registered with multiple schemes (NICEIC and NAPIT, for example), the system tracks scheme-specific requirements separately. CPD hours are logged against each electrician, showing progress towards annual requirements.

Beyond Individual Tracking

For electrical contractors with multiple employees, the system also helps with competency management — ensuring the right person is assigned to the right job based on their qualifications and experience. An electrician without a particular manufacturer's training should not be assigned to commission that manufacturer's equipment.

Built by Someone Who Understands

I have built compliance tracking systems for electrical contractors and other trades businesses. I understand the specific requirements of NICEIC, ECS and Part P compliance. Get in touch to discuss your certification tracking needs.
